October 2016 Challenge – Grattitude

Background:

Sometimes we forget to be grateful for all of the wonderful things in our life. They do not need to be big, life changing events or possessions… little things that happen to us on a daily basis can be a great opportunity for us to practice gratitude on a daily basis. There is an expression I like to say… “The story could always be worse.” For example, if you add the phrase “… and then I fell in dog shit.” to the end of any story it instantly becomes worse. : ) I like this expression because it allows me to look at the positive in any challenge or setback which comes my way. This month, Jen challenged me to write one thing I was grateful for each day.

The Month:

The first couple of days of the challenge were easy enough. I was able to come up with good things to be grateful for each day and the challenge was successful. Then, I forgot to do it for a handful of days despite daily reminders from Jen… so, thanks to Jen’s great idea, I started WhatsApp-ing her each day with what I was grateful for. I found this to be a much easier way to hold myself accountable in the challenge and an easier system for me because I could simply write and send my thoughts in the moment that they occurred to me. Nice one, Jen!

Successful?

Yes, I think so. I am grateful that Jen helped keep me in check and that she even participated with me each day by sending me what she was grateful for each day, too. I did not have any major revelations during the month and I do not feel like a changed person for it. I also regret to say that since the challenge ended I have not kept up with it in the month of November, but it was good while it lasted. Reflecting on it now as I write this blog article on 28-Nov-2016, I DO have much to be grateful for, and I will try to keep this in mind as 2016 comes to its end and 2017 is about to begin.
