A Year of Challenges – A Review

Background

I sincerely cannot believe that Jen and I have been doing our monthly challenges for a year now… time really does fly! Jen, thank you for sharing in this experience with me and for challenging me to grow, get out of my comfort zone, and hopefully be a better person. In case you have forgotten, here is what you have challenged me to do over the last twelve months…

The Challenges:

  1. August 2014 – Planks Every Day – FAILED!
  2. September 2014 – Potty Mouth Be Gone – SUCCESS!
  3. October 2014 – Photo Challenge – FAILED!
  4. November 2014 – Stop Biting Finger Nails – SUCCESS!
  5. December 2014 – No More Snooze Button – SUCCESS!
  6. January 2015 – Dance Challenge 1 – SUCCESS!
  7. February 2015 – Dance Challenge 2 – SUCCESS!
  8. March 2015 – Journaling – SUCCESS!
  9. April 2015 – Thank You Letters – FAILED!
  10. May 2015 – Learn Brazilian Portuguese – SUCCESS!
  11. June 2015 – Exercise Daily – FAILED!
  12. July 2015 – Photo Challenge 2 – SUCCESS!

Sustainable Success?!?

As you can see, I was able to complete 67% of the challenges presented to me over the last year! Work, stress, and even travel and vacations were the stumbling blocks and my excuses for the failures in the other four months.

That being said, not all of the challenges have had lasting success. After a few months I started biting my finger nails again and I admit that my Portuguese has pretty much been nonexistent since finishing the May challenge. As for the Potty Mouth Be Gone Challenge… fuck that! : )

The Future

I hope to forever challenge myself or be challenged to grow, evolve, and become a better version of myself. I look forward to seeing what the second year will bring. This month, for example, I will be listening to a different podcast every single day to expand my mind and expose myself to themes I have not previously visited in a medium which is still new to me. Here we go…
